The Sensex ended up 409.21 points or 1.5 percent at 28114.56, and

the Nifty was up 111.05 points or 1.3 percent at 8532.85. 

About 1650 shares advanced, 1222 shares declined, and 166 shares were unchanged.

L&T Q1 profit seen up 4.5%,

Engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro 's (L&T) first quarter profit is expected to grow 4.5 percent Y-o-Y on adjusted basis.

In Q1FY15, earnings included Dhamra Port stake sale profits and also write-back of provisions. However,

consolidated (reported) profit is seen falling 14.1 percent year-on-year to Rs 830 crore, according to average of estimates of analysts.

Indian ADRs: Dr Reddy's gains 3.5%; Tata Motors, ICICI up

Indian ADRs ended higher on Thursday. In the banking space, ICICI Bank added 0.25 percent at USD 9.60 and HDFC Bank gained 0.18 percent at USD 61.75.

 In the IT space, Infosys was down 0.05 percent at USD 16.95 and Wipro was down 0.03 percent at USD 12.26. In the other sectors, Tata Motors rose 0.23 percent at USD 29.44 and Dr Reddy's Laboratories advanced 3.45 percent at USD 62.
